Summary

All Tulane computer and computing device orders must adhere to the Tulane Workstation and Mobile Device policy. The Policy applies to, but is not limited to, all devices and accompanying media that fit the following classifications:  

  • Laptop/notebook/Ultrabook computers
  • Workstations
  • Smartphones 
  • Other mobile/ cellular phones 
  • Tablets
  • Portable media devices
  • Wearable computing devices
  • Any other device capable of storing university data connecting to a network 

Tulane Purchasing will apply the Workstation and Mobile Device policy to all computing device order requests. Policy exceptions can only be authorized by University IT.

Computing device order requirements:

  • Authorized computer models are: 
    • Dell - Optiplex, Latitude, Precision, Alienware, Dell, Dell Pro, Dell ProMax (XPS allowed but not recommended)
    • Apple - current iPad models / current computer models, EXCEPT MacBook Neo
    • MicroSoft - all Surface models, EXCEPT configurations with ARM processors
  • Full four-year warranty, w/accidental damage insurance for laptops
  • Apple iOS or Windows (Enterprise/Pro) only
    • All Dell and Microsoft devices must be licensed for Windows (not supported: Windows Home Edition)
    • Not supported: Windows Home Edition, ChromeOS, Android
  • New computers only (used or refurbished computers not allowed)
  • All Dell computers must be configured with Windows AutoPilot and Ready Image
  • No device, including smartphones, may be "jailbroken" or otherwise altered to change built-in protections
