Full policy: Institutional Computer Purchases at Tulane
Summary
All Tulane computer and computing device orders must adhere to the Tulane Workstation and Mobile Device policy. The Policy applies to, but is not limited to, all devices and accompanying media that fit the following classifications:
- Laptop/notebook/Ultrabook computers
- Workstations
- Smartphones
- Other mobile/ cellular phones
- Tablets
- Portable media devices
- Wearable computing devices
- Any other device capable of storing university data connecting to a network
Tulane Purchasing will apply the Workstation and Mobile Device policy to all computing device order requests. Policy exceptions can only be authorized by University IT.
Workstation, laptop, and tablet order requirements:
- Authorized computer models are:
- Dell - Optiplex, Latitude, and Precision (XPS allowed but only if ALL IT requirements can be met)
- Apple - all model computer models, all iPad models
- MicroSoft - all Surface models, EXCEPT Surface Laptop 7
- Full four-year warranty, w/accidental damage insurance for laptops
- Apple iOS or Windows (Enterprise/Pro) only
- All Dell and Microsoft devices must be licensed for Windows
- Not supported: Windows Home Edition, ChromeOS, Android
- New computers only (used or refurbished computers not allowed)
- All Dell computers must be configured with Windows AutoPilot and Ready Image.
Computer and tablet sourcing:
- Dell models: eProcurement Dell punch out catalog
- Apple models: Tulane Technology Connection
- MicroSoft Surface: Tulane Technology Connection or the eProcurement CDW-G punch out catalog
Computers and tablets may NOT be purchased from Amazon.
